Freedom Student Wins GA Science Fair

Juliana Damico, a sixth-grader at , took home first-place honors at the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair.

Damico's project, which focused on plant science, earned three other special awards, according to a report in today's Cherokee Tribune.

One of the awards, the Broadcom Masters Award for Outstanding Performance, qualifies Damico for a national competition that could net the 11-year-old a $20,000 prize.

Held this past weekend in Athens, the state fair featured 13 projects from the , district spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said.
