Etowah Enjoys A Homecoming Win over Cherokee
Cherokee loses QB Spencer Ashley early and Etowah overcomes an early deficit to win 26-9.
Homecoming for Etowah was celebrated Friday night win a 26-9 win over Cherokee at Etowah High School. What looked to be shaping up to be a tough battle all night turned sour for Cherokee after Spencer Ashley was injured during a run in the first quarter. Hunter Wingfield filled in for Ashley for the rest of the game and also scored Cherokee's lone touchdown of the night in the first quarter. Wingfields QB keeper put Cherokee up 9 - 6 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter Etowah put up two touchdowns to take a 20-9 lead at halftime. The second half was a field possession battle with both defenses playing well with only Etowah hitting two field goals to end the nights scoring at 26-9.
Both squads gear up again next friday as Etowah (4-3) will take on neighboring Woodstock (2-5) and Cherokee (1-6) will travel to face Roswell (1-6).
