Cherokee Teachers of the Year Honored at Banquet

The banquet recognized the system level and school level teachers of the year in the Cherokee County School District.

The Cherokee County School District celebrated outstanding educators with an elegant dinner, tributes and gifts at the Cherokee County 2014 Teacher of the Year Banquet thanks to the support of community partners.

The annual dinner for the Cherokee County teacher of the year and all school-level teachers of the year was co-hosted by Credit Union of Georgia and Northside Hospital-Cherokee on Dec. 12 at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center in Canton.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo congratulated Cherokee County 2014 Teacher of the Year Lindsay Bowley of Creekland Middle School, as well as all school-level winners during the event, which also was attended by all district principals, the Superintendent’s Cabinet and six members of the school board.

“Lindsay Bowley calls herself a ‘professional noticer,’” Petruzielo said in his introduction of the county’s Teacher of the Year, who then gave her own speech to the audience. “I love that language – it’s very powerful.  She’s looking for kids’ talents, what makes them tick. We’re proud to have someone like Ms. Bowley working in our system. She clearly has a calling to be a teacher, and she was born to work with teenagers.”

The superintendent then introduced Zoe Guthrie, one of Bowley’s former students, who spoke about how Bowley noticed her and instilled her with confidence in her writing and in herself.

Bowley in her speech thanked the district and her past teachers, as she is a product of Cherokee County public schools, for noticing her; and she praised all of the school-level teachers of the year in the audience for their passion for education and care for their students.

Petruzielo presented gifts to all of the winners including: a $100 Visa Gift Card (funded by donations including from Fforg), gifts from Alcatel, BrainPOP, Dell, Pearson Digital Learning and Lifetouch Portrait Studio and engraved plaques.

Bowley additionally received: a Dell XPS Tablet from Dell, a $500 gift card and $100 gift basket from Kroger, an Amazon Kindle Fire from CommScope, an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite from Alcatel, a Cannon Powershot SX170 IS digital camera from Southern Computer Warehouse, a $50 Visa gift card from netTrekker and a $50 Starbucks gift card from Panduit.

“The people in this room tonight are why our school district has become and continues to be a leading school system in Georgia and the nation, and I thank you for all that you do every day in your classrooms and in our community," Petruzielo later added.

To further recognize the district's teacher's of the year, a webpage was created last year on the its website and contains stories about and photos of each of the school-level teachers of the year.
