Cherokee Schools Make Decision on Friday Classes, February Break

Will Cherokee County Schools be in session on Friday, Feb. 14?

There will be no classes in the Cherokee County School District on Friday, Feb. 14, although staff members are asked to report at 10 a.m.

While the district has to make up this week's missed school days, there will not be school next week during the planned February Break.

Here's the announcement from the school district website:

In an abundance of caution, and due to probable hazardous conditions/icy roads in the early morning hours tomorrow, the Superintendent has closed CCSD schools Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. All 190-Day to 247-Day staff should report at 10 a.m.

In response to inquiries about possible make-up days for students: there will not be classes during next week’s planned February Break. School District staff will work with the Georgia Department of Education as it relates to options for making up the instructional time lost this semester.

While current State Board Policy in this regard allows for four lost instructional days due to inclement weather, we are hearing that additional allowances may be sought through the State Board of Education due to two different “State of Emergency” declarations.

Thank you for your patience during this review process.
