Cherokee Schools Closed Tuesday Due to "Dangerously Cold Temperatures"

Wind chills are expected to be between 15 and 20 degrees below zero through Tuesday afternoon.

Students in the Cherokee County School District will have to wait another day to return to classes.

The district announced Monday afternoon that it will cancel classes for students on Tuesday due to the "dangerously cold temperatures" expected to hit Cherokee County tonight and tomorrow, according to a statement released by the district.

However, all district employees will report to their respective places of work tomorrow at 10 a.m.

High temperatures throughout Cherokee will not make it out of the 20s on Monday, and wind chill values could be as low as 4 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service

Residents should expect tonight's temperature to drop to around 6 degrees, with wind chills plummeting below 0 degrees.

The county, along with several others, is under a wind chill warning through 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning advises of dangerously cold wind chills with widespread wind chill readings of 15 to 20 below zero, with some areas in the higher elevations approaching 30 below.
