The threat of accumulating snow and ice has propelled the Cherokee County School District to cancel classes on Monday.

The district announced Sunday evening that it will cancel classes for students and close offices on Monday. Students and staff were set to return to school on Monday from the winter break.

Cherokee County and the cities of CantonHolly Springs and Woodstock government offices will delay opening until 10 a.m. Monday.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon Monday for Canton and Cherokee County, according to the National Weather Service. Rain, sleet and snow are expected to change over to all snow after 4 a.m. Monday.

Wind chills are expected to drop to as low as 15 degrees below zero Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, NWS states

Along with the wind chill, winds out of the northwest will range between 15 and 20 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 40 miles per hour. This could not only make driving difficult, but could also result in power outages and hypothermia.
