The Cherokee County School Board has a full agenda for its meeting tonight in downtown Canton.

The board is expected to hear the first reading of its proposed fiscal year 2015 budget, which is set at $530 million, and appoint an interim member to serve the District 1 post until the Nov. 4 special election.

The board's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. June 19 at the Historic Canton High School/School Board Auditorium.

The school board is set to table the budget tonight and approve a spending resolution, which would be in effect July 1-31.

Additional public budget hearings will be held at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at the auditorium. The board will vote on the proposed budget at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23.

The three candidates who will be considered tonight for appointment to the District 1 seat are Kyla Cromer, vice president of the Cherokee County Council of PTA; James "Jim" Nicholson, a retired educator; and William Wuth, a former private school administrator.

The seat is now vacant due to the April 30 resignation of Kelly Marlow, who was convicted of felony false statement charges.

State law calls for the board to hold a special election to fill vacancies when more than a year of a board member's term remains. Marlow's term expires on Dec. 31, 2016.

The board's entire agenda can be viewed on its website
