Canton Student Earns Emmy Bid

Two students, a recent graduate who’s a Patch contributor and the lead instructor of the school's television production technology program have been nominated for Southeastern Regional Emmy Awards for work they did through class.

The television production program is based at in Northeast Cobb.

Student Gerald Hone of Canton was nominated in student production—news for the film From Rescue to Release, which documents the  bird rescue program.

Hone shot the film for a class in advanced video projects. Students spent a semester completing a long-form production, from conception to post-production, and were judged on organization, visual storytelling, lighting, audio, editing and graphics.

Program graduate of Kennesaw, whose work for Patch includes extensive video coverage of high school football, teamed with current student Marty Johnson of Alpharetta to create Double Cross My Heart, nominated in the category of student production—non-news.

They did the project for their multicamera production class, which emphasized proper equipment operation and live-to-tape productions. An assignment required them to film a dramatic presentation that could fit into a movie or TV show. They wrote, directed, cast and filmed the nominated scene.

Lead instructor Ian Feinberg was nominated with Dorothy Daniels of WSB-TV and Courtney Reed of the in the category of special event coverage—edited for work on the 2011 Shuler Hensley Awards, the Tonys for Georgia high school musical theater productions.

Feinberg directed about 25 Chattahoochee Tech students on the production, which WSB broadcast as a special last summer. The Chatt Tech students worked as camera operators, assistant directors, cable wranglers, video playback operators and other jobs.

The winners of the Southeastern Emmys will be announced June 9 during a gala hosted by Jasmine Guy at the in Buckhead.

Chattahoochee Tech's television production technology program teaches the behind-the-scene skills necessary to produce TV news, documentaries and entertainment shows. The program includes a modern, on-campus studio, which last June.
