Canton Boil Water Advisory Extended to Waleska

A water main break interrupted service for hours in Canton. A boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.

Update 10:31 a.m. Thursday

From Robyn Tidwell Smith with the city of Waleska: "Waleska is under a boil advisory due to the City of Canton's water main break until 5 p.m. today. This area includes Sam Nelson Road, Lower Burris Road, and Highway 140 from Canton to Waleska city limits."

Update 9:30 a.m. Thursday

Jeff Hall, the city's director of emergency management, just told Canton-Sixes Patch that "all samples have been taken. It will be up to the EPD to make the final ruling" on lifting the boil water advisory currently in effect.

Update 2:11 p.m. Wednesday

Jeff Hall, the city's director of emergency management, just told Canton-Sixes Patch that water service has been restored. "We got it done a little earlier than projected. Everybody should have water. Their pressure may not be at a 100 percent. It looks like a large portion or all has been restored."

The boil water advisory remains in effect. It may take up to 48 hours before the advisory is lifted, he said.

Update 10:35 a.m. Wednesday

The entire service area for the city of Canton water is affected by the water main break, according to this new update. "If the water has low pressure or appears murky, then the water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil," officials said in a news release. "The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice."

Jeff Hall, the city's director of emergency management, could not quantify the number of folks affected by the break, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. The break wasn't located until 11 p.m. Tuesday.

"A tree fell and the root base caused the damage," Hall said. It was "about 300 yards off of Waleska Street, close to the Etowah River."

Some city of Canton customers will have to wait until 2 p.m. for water.

Crews are working to repair a water main break that has disrupted service for "several residents and businesses in the city," IT director Camille Wehs said in a news release.

She didn't say when or where the break occurred. The alert was sent out at 4:42 this morning.
