Truck Passing Lanes Open on Highway 20

After three years and $11 million, over four miles of truck passing lanes have been built on the Cherokee County highway.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) has good news for motorists who use Highway 20 in Cherokee County.

The department announced that 4.3 miles of truck passing lanes, which extend from west of Union Hill Road to east of Greenwood Court, have been completed after a three-year construction project.

Estimates pegged the completion of the project in the July, 2013 timeframe, at a cost of $11,222,641.

“We are glad to complete these passing lanes on schedule and give the improved road back to the traveling public in Cherokee County,” said Dewayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville in a department press release.

“Although some minor work remains to be done, construction is complete as far as the traveling public is concerned.”
