Resolution for Term Limits Will Be Acted Upon Tonight

If approved, the resolution will go to the General Assembly for final action.

The Canton City Council will be looking to impose term limits upon itself by approving a resolution to send to the General Assembly during their final meeting of 2012 on Thursday Evening.

It is expected that the resolution, which will be brought forward by Councilman Bob Rush, will pass unanimously. Once the resolution passes, it will act as an official request to the Georgia General Assembly to amend the city's charter to create a limit of two consecutive terms of office for any person elected from 2013 on.

This resolution is one of seven items of "old business" on the agenda for this evening. Other items for consideration include possible actions to end the elected officials' pension plan in concert with compensation increases, and a second reading of the ordinance proposed by Councilman Bill Bryan that would remove the Mayor's staff.
