Republican Debates Resume Tonight

1. Early voting for the July 31 general primary begins today in Cherokee County. Look for details at 5 a.m.

2. Head over to the Cherokee County Republican Party headquarters, 1428 Towne Lake Pkwy., Towne Lake at 7 tonight for the sixth in a series of debates leading up to the July 31 general primary. Among others, hear from , Dean Sheridan, Alan Shinall and , the candidates for the new House District 23.

3. Today is the last day to  for a Patch Readers' Choice Award. Plenty of you have nominated your , but few of you have offered nominations in the 24 other categories. Get in your picks by 11:59 p.m. tonight. After that, Patch will not accept any additional nominations.

4. Calling a council member's proposal to create a fire district a "disingenuous scheme" that will not provide enough revenue to meet the city's long-term fire service needs, Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood instead endorsed a plan to consolidate the city's fire department with the county's.
