The qualifying period for candidates to enter the House District 21 special election on Jan. 8, 2013 ended at noon Wednesday with six people successfully qualifying.
Two additional candidates qualified after the initial list was published on Dec. 10-independent international account director Eduardo Correia and Republican businessman Kenneth Ashley Mimbs. Both men are from the Canton area.
Next month's election is required because the former holder of the seat, Rep. Sean Jerguson, has left the State House of Representatives in order to run for the State Senate seat vacated by Chip Rogers earlier this month.
Two candidates have already dropped out of the race. The aforementioned Correia does not live in House District 21, and Bill Fincher has withdrawn his candidacy for unknown reasons.
Below is the list of candidates that have qualified to run for the upcoming election. If a candidate's name is highlighted, he or she has been profiled by Patch and you can read more about them by clicking on their name.Brian Laurens
