  • Expanding Mayoral Powers. Under a proposal to be discussed tonight, Mayor Gene Hobgood would have the right to:
    • Veto any ordinance adopted by the council.
    • Suspend the city manager for seven days with pay.
    • Nominate candidates for mayor pro tem, city attorney, city clerk, and city boards, commissions and authorities.
    • Select and supervise appointed or employed staff. Employed staff will be .
  • Rental Car Excise Tax, Rental Assistance Program. Last month, Canton Main Street Program Director Ginger Garrard proposed . Tonight, the council is expected to approve an ordinance that authorizes the collection of an excise tax upon rental of a motor vehicle. Proceeds from the tax will be used to fund the rental assistance program that Garrard introduced to council members.
  • Changing City Voting Precincts to Correspond with County Voting Precincts. During the Nov. 8 municipal election, . The council will discuss changing this to make the voting process more convenient for residents.
