Officials: Don't Bring Your Firearms To Lake Allatoona
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reminding residents that federal law already restricts who can utilize firearms on lakes and lands managed by the agency.
While Georgia's Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 greatly expands where license gun owners can take their firearms, a federal agency is reminding residents that new law does not extend to the shores of Lake Allatoona.
House Bill 60, the legislation critics refer to as the "guns everywhere" bill, goes into effect on July 1, and does not affect Georgia lakes and lands managed by the U.s. Army Corps of Engineers.
The agency said in a news release that corps property is regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, part 327.
"Regulations governing possession of firearms specify that possession of loaded firearms, ammunition or loaded projectile firing devices is prohibited unless in the possession of federal, state or local law enforcement officers, or when being used in compliance with hunting regulations," the agency said.
