The Canton City Council meets at 6 tonight at . Among the items on the agenda:

  • Canton resident Jeanie Hanie will discuss garbage pickup. At the , Hanie asked the council to change the city's ordinance to allow residents who want to opt out of the service to do that. She said when she lived in Woodstock, she had that option.
  • The council will discuss an insurance premium tax that is expected to generate $600,000 in additional revenue for the city. During the Oct. 20 meeting, Council member Pat Tanner asked that the money be set aside for any operational costs associated with . Her colleagues wanted to conduct more due diligence before they agreed to designate the money for a specific purpose.
  • Council members will again discuss plans for a third fire station. Council member Bob Rush asked City Manager Scott Wood and Chief Dean Floyd to take out the unnecessary "frosting" from a 2003 design, prepare an RFQ and pursue the station in Laurel Canyon and Great Sky. He also asked Wood to begin discussions with Cherokee County on a joint fire station in the Bluffs.
