Let the Campaigning Begin

Today is the first day that candidates can officially declare their intent to run for local office.

Who's going to join the race for mayor and three city council positions?

Residents will find out as early as today—the first day that candidates can file paperwork to have their names placed on the Nov. 8 ballot.

The terms of Mayor Gene Hobgood and council members Pat Tanner (Ward I), Jack Goodwin (Ward II) and Amelia Rose (Ward III) are up and all have said they plan to run for re-election.

Tanner will face opposition from Hooky Huffman, a retired 3M executive who lives in Canton's Great Sky community.

According to the Cherokee Ledger-News, Goodwin and local businessman Bill Grant will go head-to-head in the Ward II race while River Green resident Glen Cummins is hoping to unseat Rose in the Ward III contest.
