Improvements Coming to North, East Main Streets

The project to resurface both streets in downtown Canton will start soon and is expected to wrap up by the end of July.

Two major thoroughfares in downtown Canton are slated to be resurfaced this summer.

Construction will soon start on the improvements to East Main and North streets.

The improvements on North Street will start at the pedestrian crossing near the Cherokee County Justice Center and run along East Main Street, ending on Cumming Highway near the entrance to Hasty Elementary School.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July, and motorists and pedestrians should expect single lane closures throughout the project

Full road closures and detours are not expected at this time.

The improvements are part of the 2014 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant, an annual program run by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The city last month voted to execute a contract with Allied Paving Contractors to perform the work for $238,450.
