Amend or Rescind Redistricting Plan

Hours after the head of the agency that accredits Cherokee and other school systems criticized House Bill 978, Cherokee Citizens for Kids wrote this open letter to the Cherokee County Legislative Delegation.

When Cherokee Citizens for the Kids was formed, we had a vision that our voices would be the ones heard in support of all the children of our county. With sentiments running high, we felt there needed to be a place for those citizens who were proud of our county and the accomplishments of our school system to band together to keep moving towards excellence in education. We have tried to be a voice of reason in the heated arena of education and politics in the county.

Through HB 978, you are attempting to enact legislation that completely overhauls the way our county elects their School Board. You were only required to , not to .

As you well know, there is much , yet it has passed the House and has moved on to the Senate. CCFTK, along with many residents from the county, adamantly opposed this revamping but all pleas fell on deaf ears and no amount of reasoning swayed you.

In light of , and with our heartfelt plea we implore you to reassess this legislation. Amend it or rescind it immediately before irreparable harm comes to the children of our county. We appeal to your sense of fairness, your integrity and your reputation to pull back from the stance you have taken and instead think of those who have been entrusted to your care, the children of our county.

This is such an obvious display of partisan politics. I am disgusted with the actions of our alleged "representatives." The only people they represent are themselves and their own personal agendas. If this bill becomes law, my only hope is that the citizens of Cherokee County will wake up and use the ballot box to send these legislators home!

Loss of accreditation could impact more than our schools in Cherokee County. Home prices and the housing market could plummet even lower than what it is now. No responsible parent wants to move their child to a county that has no accreditation. Wake up Cherokee County this isn't for the best of ALL this is what is WANTED by a few. One man one voice, fine by me. My voice will be heard at the voting polls. Anyone who supports this, won't get my vote. All who oppose it or run against those who vote for it, will get my vote, my time, and my money in contributions. I'm a stay at home mom, with time on my hands while my kids are in school, and money to burn. Just watch me use my considerable assets.
