Staff Report

Construction work could begin soon on an intersection improvement project along S.R. 20 in western Cherokee County.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.91 million contract to CMES, Inc. to make improvements at S.R. 20/Knox Bridge Highway and S.R. 108/Fincher Road, the agency said in a press release on Wednesday.

The project involves removing the White Road leg of the existing five-legged intersection to create a four-legged intersection with a better intersection angle.

White Road and Mt. Carmel Church Lane will be realigned to intersect with S.R. 108 and S.R. 20 intersection. A traffic signal will also be installed at the intersection.

This construction project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2016.

GDOT said it will provide information on construction and lane closures as work begins.
