GDOT To Repair Pavement Edges on Cherokee Highways

The Georgia Department of Transportation's maintenance crews this week will be repairing pavement edges on three state routes.

Motorists driving on three state highways should be extra cautions this week as maintenance crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation will be making repairs on deteriorating pavement edges.

Crews will be working along State Routes 140, 372 and 20 in Cherokee County between today and Thursday, Jan. 16 to make the repairs.

Weather permitting, work will occur between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each day.

The repairs are done "to guard against pavement failure along the edges due to the action of traffic and the loss of edge support that occurs due to the presence of water, aggressive-growth vegetation and wind from either traffic or the atmosphere," GDOT said in a news release.

The repairs are also designed to reduce the effects of shoulder drop-offs and improve roadway safety, the agency said.
