Council To Look at Development Code, Sewer Plant

Two brief meetings will be held at City Hall this afternoon.

Members of the Canton City Council will be holding two meetings regarding the sewer treatment plant and the draft unified development code at City Hall Thursday afternoon.

The first meeting, presented by City Manager Scott Wood, will continue the discussion into the revision of the zoning portion of the city's development code. First proposed two years ago, the changes to the unified development code would modernize and streamline the code in line with the Horizon 2030 plan, which may be superseded by Mayor Gene Hobgood's Committee on Canton's Future . The 2010 request for qualifications that outlines the revamping of the code is attached to this article.

Following Wood's discussion, Councilman John Beresford will lead the discussion and provide an update on the city's sewer treatment plant renovations. The city has been criticised for the multiple health violations racked up by the city's overworked wastewater treatment system .
