Commissioners To Discuss Delay in Cherokee Precinct Changes

The Cherokee County Commission will discuss a decision by the county Elections Board to hold off on implementing precinct changes until 2015.

The Cherokee County Commission will review and discuss a decision to delay implementing changes to the number of county voting precincts during its work session today.

The discussion with Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda will take place when the work session starts at 3 p.m. The commissioners' regular meeting will follow the work session, and will start at 6 p.m. at the county administration building.

The Cherokee County Board of Elections has proposed a number of changes in voting locations, precinct lines and renaming of voting precincts. The changes were approved and were set to take effect this year.

However, since the county earlier this month had to hold a special election to fill the Georgia House District 22 seat, the board decided to carry out the changes in 2015.

During the meeting, the county will consider a resolution to adopt 2014 qualifying fees, selling the shoot house at the Roger Garrison Law Enforcement Training Center to the state for $700,000 and a partnership agreement with Northside Hospital-Cherokee to allow the company to contribute $125,000 (to be made in annual installments of $25,000 for five years) towards parks and recreation.
