Cobb: Water Should Be Ours

The Canton City Council is considering selling its 25 percent stake in the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir to the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority.

At the first meeting of the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority since discussions surrounding Canton's Hickory Log Creek Reservoir hit a hurdle, the head of the agency said on Monday that the authority should retain any water it releases.

According to a report in today's Marietta Daily Journal, Cobb-Marietta general manager Glenn Page said, “Our position is, if we release a gallon of water, that gallon should remain ours all the way down the river into Lake Allatoona.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has not determined just how much water the authority would be entitled to in Allatoona, which is why .

Before the authority proceeds with an offer to take full ownership of the reservoir, those unresolved issues with the Corps must be settled, Howard Woods told the agency in his Feb. 22 letter.

Page said Monday that a detailed review of the water authority’s proposal to draw more water from Lake Allatoona will take at least six months, according to the MDJ report.
