Unemployment Rate Unchanged

The Georgia Department of Labor released a new jobs report today. The percentage of Cherokee's unemployed was the same in June and July.

The percentage of the county's unemployed didn't change from June to July, the Georgia Department of Labor said today.

A new report puts Cherokee's July unemployment rate at 8.7 percent, which is . That equates to 9,470 people. In June, the number was slightly lower: 9,426.

As a region, metro Atlanta's unemployment rate fell from 10.5 percent in June to 10.4 percent in July.

"The rate declined because there were 14,000 more residents of metro Atlanta employed in July than in June," State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a news release. "And, there were fewer layoffs in health care and social assistance, educational services, and accommodations and food services."
