Cherokee To Review Canton Annexation Request

Commissioners will review a request to annex and rezone land into the city of Canton for commercial use.

A proposal to annex and rezone land into the city of Canton will be placed under Cherokee County Commission's microscope during its work session and its meeting.

The board will review a petition by Will Hasty Jr. to annex and rezone 24.26 acres on Cumming Highway at Old Doss Drive from R-40 and general commercial in Cherokee to C-2, or general commercial, into the city.

The commission will review the request during its 3 p.m. work session and regular meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. Both session will be held at the county administration building in Canton.

Steve Green, Canton's zoning administrator, said Hasty did not specify what exactly will be built on the property, but noted it could be a "mixed retail, office type development."

The Canton Planning Commission heard the proposal during its meeting on Monday, and it will go before the Canton City Council in January for a final decision.

Commissioners will also consider approving a request to purchase new vehicles for the Marshal's Office and an agreement with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center for joint use of the shoot house at the Sheriff Roger Garrison Law Enforcement Training Center.
