Cherokee Takes No Action on Sunday Alcohol Sales

The Board of Commissioners has until the end of the summer to decide if they want to put the issue before voters this November.

The board has until the end of the summer to decide if they want to put the issue before voters this November.

"I'm fine if we don't do it at all," said Commissioner Karen Bosch, who lives in and represents the Sixes Road corridor. But she said she was having a hard time getting around letting the voters decide.

The governor signed legislation last week that would allow counties and cities to vote on Sunday alcohol sales.

Chairman Buzz Ahrens said the county's has indicated there will be a special election in November and that the Sunday alcohol sales issue could be added to that ballot.

If approved by voters, the measure would allow alcohol sales in liquor stores, grocery stores and convenience stores. Restaurants are already able to sell alcohol by the drink on Sundays in many places.
