Cherokee Submits 16 Roads To Be Resurfaced

If approved by GDOT, the roads would be resurfaced using the state's Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant funding

The Cherokee County Commission has approved plans to submit 16 roads that it would like to resurface using state funds.

The commission on Tuesday unanimously approved submitting the list of roads to the Georgia Department of Transportation to be resurfaced using the agency's Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant, or LMIG, funds.

The roads (ranked from highest to lowest priority) submitted are:

  • Fate Conn Road from northwest of Towne Mill Avenue to Lower Burris Road.
  • Fields Chapel Road from S.R. 20 to where it dead ends at a gate.
  • Glenn Wilkie Trail from Edwards Mill to S.R. 372.
  • Land Road from Lower Burris Road to Lower Bethany Road.
  • Lower Burris Road from Land Road to S.R. 140.
  • Lower Creighton Road from S.R. 369 to the Forsyth County line.
  • Salacoa Road from S.R. 140 to  Jerusalem Church Road.
  • Waters Road from  North Arnold Mill Road to East Cherokee Drive.
  • Earney Road from the dam to Batesville Road.
  • Harmony Drive from S.R. 20 to the entrance of the Governor's Preserve neighborhood.
  • Hornage Road from Lower Bethany Road to Howell Bridge Road.
  • Old Hornage Road from Hornage Road to its dead end.
  • A Donald Road from Lower Burris Road to Land Road.
  • Fox Lane from Red Fox Circle to its dead end.
  • Fox Ridge from Red Fox Circle to the cul-de-sac.
  • Red Fox Circle from Earney Road to its dead end.
The total distance of the roads is 25.74 miles and the cost to pave all the roads sits right at $1.6 million. The amount GDOT has made available is $1.59 million. 

The roads listed have "structural deficiencies" and the county plans to cover any remaining costs GDOT doesn't fund, County Chairman Buzz Ahrens wrote in a formal letter submitting the list.
