Chamber to Cut Ribbon on Canton Dog Park

However, the park won't officially open until April 16.

After years of campaigning for an off-leash dog park, the nonprofit Canton Paw Park Association will cut the ribbon on its new space at 11 a.m. today.

The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce is holding the ribbon cutting a month ahead of the Canton Paw Park's April 16 grand opening.

Right now, the field is not usable and a city ordinance that prohibits dogs in its public parks and buildings still applies.

Dogs can come to today's event only if they are by their owners and on leashes.

is donating the land for an initial period of three years and the Paw Park will be responsible for everything from fencing to maintenance.

Admission to the park will be free.
