Canton To Vote on Allowing Growlers

The Canton City Council will meet Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Canton City Council on Thursday is set to consider approving an ordinance that would pave the way for retail shops to sell growlers.

The council will consider the ordinance during its meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at Canton City Hall.

The ordinance would allow the retail sales of growlers, wine shops, ancillary tasting licenses for beer and wine and eliminate floor space requirements for beer and wine shops in the downtown area.

Growlers are sealed, air tight containers filled with beer that residents can purchase and take off-premises.

It's also considering an ordinance that would allow farm wineries to obtain licenses for on-premises consumption and package sales.

Mayor Gene Hobgood is also set to introduce a proposal that would forgive the water bill accumulated by the Canton Victory Garden East.
