Canton Could Name New Interim City Manager

A committee tasked with finding an interim city manager is expected to announce its chosen person tonight.

Another interim city manager could be named during tonight's Canton City Council meeting.

The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. at Canton City Hall. The committee tasked with searching for an interim is expected to make its announcement tonight.

Chief Financial Officer Nathan Ingram has been acting as city manager since Scott Wood abruptly resigned moments before the Jan. 2 meeting.

Council policy requires Ingram to act as city manager for up to two weeks to give the city time to put in find an interim. Once that person is named, Mayor Gene Hobgood will name a search committee to find a permanent city manager.

Councilman Bill Grant will lead a discussion on emergency and warming shelters. Grant wants the city to discuss creating a "proactive" plan to have in place if temperatures dip well below freezing in the city.

Council members will also consider approving an amendment to its alcohol ordinance to allow for the sale of growlers, wine shops and ancillary tastings, rejecting current bids and soliciting for new bids to build restrooms at Brown Park and appointing a fire services committee.
