Canton Could Approve Treatment Plant Upgrades

The Canton City Council has a full agenda for its meeting tonight, which starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The Canton City Council tonight could approve a contract that would allow the city to move forward with much needed upgrades to its Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Council members during their meeting will consider awarding a bid to Heavy Constructors, Inc. to perform the work. The council's meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at Canton City Hall.

Heavy Constructors, which is the lowest of four bids the city received, is proposing to perform the upgrades for $6.9 million.

The council will also consider approving lease agreements with John Fincher and Adkins Law Firm LLC to create a downtown greenspace.

The Canton Main Street Program will lease the parcels, located at 150 South Church Street, 111 East Main Street and 101 East Main Street, at an "agreed upon rental rate," said Main Street Director Meghan Griffin.

Griffin said Main Street will create a "sloped, terraced park area, as well as improve the sidewalk area around the park."  The park will be located at the corner of East Main and South Church streets, and would sit in front of the Mason Building, and next to the Cloud Building.
