3. Due to the hot weather, the  has made special considerations to keep students safe and hydrated. Among other things, students can now bring bottled water aboard school buses. Wednesday, the district canceled all outdoor activities from noon to 6 because of the heat index.

5. At last count Wednesday, spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said approximately 38,385 students were enrolled in Cherokee schools, an increase of 218 students from last school year's day No. 3 count. That number is still shy of the district's projection of 39,336.
