Waleska Man Tased, Threatened Family With Knife

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office had to use a taser to subdue the suspect, who is accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend and stepdaughter.

A Waleska man is behind bars at the Cherokee Adult Detention Facility after threatening to kill his long-time girlfriend with a knife late last month.

Terry Lee Brooks was arrested on March 24 for crimes resulting from a domestic dispute that had been in progress for two days. According to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office incident report, Brooks, who is allegedly bipolar and was off his medication, began assaulting his girlfriend of ten years after she tried to call 911 for an unrelated matter.

According to the girlfriend and her daughter, Brooks used a broom handle to smash out a window, then kicked over furniture and appliances. The incident report says that the daughter attempted to flee the home, but was dragged back inside by her hair by Brooks. She was then beaten with the broomhandle, and once inside, with a wooden chair. Brooks then allegedly poured a bottle of Sunny Delight on the daughter.

The mother of the girl defended her daughter by striking Brooks with an aluminum bat. Brooks then wrested control of the bat from his girlfriend and threatened to kill both of the women, brandishing a knife he retreived from the butcher's block. Soon after this, Brooks calmed down, apologized for his actions, and left the home in his truck.

When Brooks returned home, he found the daughter alone in the back yard. Brooks took the girl's cell phone and threw it at her face. When Brooks' girlfriend arrived home from an errand and saw Brooks had attacked her daughter again, she attempted to leave to get help. Brooks anticipated this and used his truck to block the driveway.

The two women finally escaped in the girlfriend's car, but Brooks climbed into the back seat. The girlfriend drove to a neighbor's house, where she was finally able to call 911.

Deputies arrived at the scene and were forced to use tasers to restrain Brooks. He was charged with two counts of criminal trespassing (Family Violence Act), simple assault (Family Violence Act), two counts of misdemeanor obstruction of an officer, aggravated battery (Family Violence Act), aggravated assault (Family Violence Act), two counts of battery (Family Violence Act), and false imprisonment. He remains in the Cherokee Adult Detention Facility without bond.
