Violent, Property Crimes Down

The FBI released the 2010 Uniform Crime Reports on Monday.

From 2009 to 2010, the number of violent and property crimes in Canton dropped, according to new data from the FBI.

Monday, the agency released its 2010 Uniform Crime Reports, a compilation of statistics collected from every law enforcement agency in the country.

In 2009, Canton recorded 28 violent crimes and 486 property crimes. Last year, it had 17 violent crimes and 471 property crimesβ€”the lowest of all Georgia municipalities with a population range of 20,000 to 29,999.

The UCR puts Canton's 2010 population at 24,697. However, the latest figure from the is 22,958.

Violent crimes include murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.

Aggravated assault was Canton's biggest violent crime; larceny-theft, the largest property crime.
