Two Men Arrested for Falsely Reporting Robbery

The money that was reported stolen was discovered in one of the men's vehicles.

UPDATE (5:15 p.m.): According to a Canton Police Department spokesperson, both suspects claim to be from the Chattanooga, TN area.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two men have been arrested by the Canton Police Department after allegedly falsely reporting a robbery of several thousand dollars.

According to a department press release, officers responded to the 1400 block of Riverstone Parkway in the Riverstone Plaza Shopping Center just before noon after receiving a report of a robbery.

Once there, officers met David Richardson, who alleged that he had been struck on the head by two white men and had been robbed of $8,000.

Another man, Joshua Jackson, claimed to have seen the crime and gave details of what he claimed to have witnessed.

Detectives interviewed the men and determined both their stories to be fabricated. Both men were arrested for false report of a crime. Detectives later found the "stolen" $8,000 and other evidence in Richardson's vehicle. 

Authorities believe this false report may be part of a larger scam.
