Two Canton Police Officers Undergo Motorcycle, Investigation Training

The two officers are the Canton Police Department's only personnel trained in traffic homicide investigation.

Two officers with the Canton Police Department expanded their professional knowledge by attending two rigorous training courses.

Officer Adam Smith and Officer Dwight Tipton successfully completed an 80-hour motorcycle training program hosted by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. During the training, the officers learned how to handle the Harley Davidson Road King and were tasked with taking their bikes through a grueling cone course in timed tests.

Officers Smith and Tipton will be seen on their motorcycles enforcing traffic laws and leading the way at parades.

Not content with simply learning how to handle their motorcycles, the officers also took an 80-hour on-scene traffic crash/vehicle homicide course at the Institute of Police Technology and Management in Jacksonville, FL.

In this math-heavy course, the officers learned how to properly investigate traffic accidents, and were instructed in occupant kinematics, how to work a traffic accident scene, and how to work a traffic homicide.

The two men are the only officers in the Canton Police Department who are certified traffic homicide investigators.
