Three Injured in Accident Involving Tractor Trailer

The two-vehicle vs. tractor trailer accident snarled traffic on Highway 20 west of Canton all Sunday afternoon.

A three-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer sent three people to an area hospital Sunday afternoon in western Cherokee County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, an 18-wheeler driven by Roman A. Tinajero, 40, from Quarts Hill, California, was traveling westbound on Highway 20/Knox Bridge Highway west of the Georgia National Cemetery when it left the roadway as it negotiated a curve.

"The driver overcorrected, crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming vehicle," said Georgia State Patrol Spokesman Gordy Wright.

The tractor trailer then jack-knifed, and the passenger vehicle it struck, a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Canton resident Louella Ann Barber, 72, overturned off the roadway.

A second passenger vehicle, a Toyota Corrolla driven by Trevor Lee Moyer, 18, of White, then rear-ended the "tandems of the tractor trailer," Wright added.

Barber sustained serious injuries while Moyer and another passenger inside his vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Along with Barber, Moyer's passengers — Charles Moyer, 49, and Victor Moyer, 15 — were all transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta to be treated for their injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the accident, and charges are pending.
