Report: Dogs Poisoned with Antifreeze

An investigation is now underway.

A Canton family wants to know who poisoned their two dogs with antifreeze over the weekend.

According to a Tuesday report on WAGA-Ch. 5, the dogs were in so much pain, they had to be euthanized.

The 1-year-old boxer mix and 5-year-old beagle mix belonged to Meredith Cannon and her children.

"I would like to know why, why they killed my kids' dogs," Cannon told reporter Patty Pan. "It's unforgivable. That was part of my family. My kids loved their dogs and I would like to know why they did it. How could they be so mean, so cruel?"

Just last December, a 36-year-old DeKalb County man was convicted of two counts of aggravated cruelty of animals in the death of a 9-year-old lab-dalmatian mix, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report. Prosecutors said Kenyata Mondrell Bryant fed the dog a bowl of chicken bones and cornbread laced with antifreeze. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

In the Canton case, the responsible party could face felony animal cruelty charges, which is punishable by up to 12 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
