UPDATE: Patient Ejected From Ambulance In I-575 Accident

A patient being transported in an AmeriMed ambulance was injured in an roll-over accident on I-575 near Exit 16 in Canton.

A patient and two medics riding in an AmeriMed Emergency Medical Services ambulance was injured in an accident early Sunday morning in Canton.

According to a Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services press release, dispatchers received a call around 2 a.m. Sunday from the driver of the ambulance notifying them of the accident, which occurred along Interstate 575 near Georgia Highway 140 at Exit 16.

Cherokee County fire responded to the accident shortly after the call and found the patient had been ejected from the back of the ambulance. 

The ambulance was traveling on the northbound side of the interstate when the it allegedly left the roadway and crashed into some trees. Along with a 22-year-old male patient, the 32-year-old female driver and a 48-year-old female passenger were hurt in the crash.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Spokesperson Tim Cavender said he thought the ambulance was headed towards Blue Ridge, but he wasn't sure of the exact location.

The three who were injured were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. None of the injuries appear to have been serious. 

No additional injuries were reported and the cause of the accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
