Parents of Suspect in Pipe Bomb Case Arrested in River Green

The arrests came one day after local, state and federal authorities descended on the family's Woodbury Lane home in Canton's River Green subdivision in search of suspected explosive devices.

The parents and a male friend of a have been arrested, officials with the said tonight.

The boy's parents, Brian and Sandra Howell, were arrested this evening and charged with six counts of possession and manufacture of a destructive device as well as two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"Our investigation revealed they had knowledge of what was going on," Canton Police Chief Bob Merchant told Canton-Sixes Patch. He said six devices were found in the home.

The male friend, who is also 14, was arrested Monday night, and charged with two counts of possession and manufacture of a destructive device. 

A female juvenile inside the Howell's Woodbury Lane home this evening was taken to the Canton Police Department and turned over to the , Det. Candy Worthy said in a press release.

Tonight's arrests came one day after local, state and federal authorities descended on the family's home in Canton's River Green subdivision.

Monday, Canton Police received a tip about explosives at the home. While assistant police chief Todd Vande Zande didn't say how or when authorities were tipped off, he said "as soon as we got the tip, we contacted the (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) Bomb Disposal Unit and the ATF and we have been in touch with the FBI."

Through the morning and the afternoon, agents with the ATF and the GBI went in and out of the Howell home.

Just before 1 p.m. Monday, the 14-year-old, who was wearing a red T-shirt, was placed in the back of a Canton Police squad car. He was charged with two counts of possession and manufacture of destructive devices.

Tonight, Worthy said his parents "will be transported to the for processing" and that "more arrests are possible."
