News Near Canton: Fire Destroys Nelson Home

While the home was a total loss, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

A home in a Nelson subdivision was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Pickens County Fire Department both responded to the call, which came at 5:45 a.m. at a home at 7 Barrel Way in the Winchester Oaks subdivision. 

Nelson sits along Highway 5 and straddles the Cherokee-Pickens border.

Cherokee County dispatchers initially reported a man was trapped inside the home, but Pickens County sheriff's deputies confirmed the man made it out of the home. 

Firefighters arrived and immediately began to attack the fire, which fully engulfed the home.

While there were no injuries, the home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
