Merolla to Rebuild

The owner of a Sixes Road office building that was gutted in a March 5 fire said that the site will be cleared next week.

Nearly two months after a , the owner said he plans to clear the site next week and start rebuilding.

Vince Merolla made that announcement during a Thursday press conference in front of the office building, according to a report in the Cherokee Tribune.

Patch was not alerted to the conference, where Merolla said he had no concrete construction schedule.

Early on the morning of March 5,  crews arrived at 3440 Sixes Rd. and found the complex 30 percent involved.

"We had two separate collapses on the structure," Battalion Chief David Tilson said that morning.

Officials had to close down northbound Sixes Road from Ridge Road to Bells Ferry Road for a couple of hours.

And  had to find another home.

Fire spokesman Tim Cavender said this month that .

But what caused the fire remains a mystery.

"Due to the inability to completely rule of the possibility of an electrical causation within the area of origin, the cause of the fire is "undetermined" at this time," he said in an April 9 email to local media.
