The body of Varun Krishnamurthy, 27, was pulled from the lake Saturday evening, said Mark McKinnon, spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division.
DNR rangers, along with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office and Bartow County Fire and Rescue Department, responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. June 21 to the Tanyard Creek area where Krishnamurthy jumped off a platform tube and "did not resurface," McKinnon stated.
Krishnamurthy's body was pulled from the lake shortly before 9 p.m. in about 14 feet of water, McKinnon said.
McKinnon said the unfortunate drowning — which follows the Allatoona drowning deaths of Chance Werner and Corday Dimilo Duffy — highlights the need for residents to be vigilant while they are in lakes and waters.
"We want people to go out and have fun on the river and lakes all around our state," McKinnon added, insisting residents take precautions such as wearing a life jacket. "There are a lot of dangers in natural water that you don't have in swimming pools."
