Lightning Did Not Spark Fire That Destroyed 2 Mobile Homes
Cherokee County fire officials say lightning strikes were not recorded in the area until about 8 a.m. July 21, well after the fire started.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services officials have ruled out lightning as the cause of a fire that destroyed two mobile homes near Canton early Monday morning.
In a press release, Cherokee fire investigator Shane Daniel said lightning did not cause the fire, which destroyed the units owned by First Baptist Church of Marietta.
Daniel stated no lightning was reported in the area until about 8 a.m. July 21, according to a lightning strike analysis.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 6:45 a.m. July 21 in the 800 block of BridgeMill Avenue.
The property contained a total of five double-wide mobile homes, all of which were located on property owned by First Baptist Church of Marietta. The church operates its Chapel Knoll at Lake Allatoona facility at the location, according to its website.
