Last Suspect Wanted in Cherokee Carjacking Arrested in Indiana

Maurice Perkins was arrested in Gary, Indiana, after a traffic stop on Saturday.

The remaining suspect wanted inlast week's botched carjacking in southwest Cherokee County has been arrested in Indiana.

Maurice Perkins, 20, of Gary, Indiana, on Saturday was arrested in his hometown during a traffic stop, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said on Monday.

Charges in the case that left one of their accomplices dead have been updated and Perkins, along with 19-year-old Jumar Greer of Acworth, now face murder, kidnapping with bodily injury and aggravated assault charges, according to the agency. 

Perkins is currently in custody in Indiana and is waiting extradition. Greer is still behind bars at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. 

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has also charged Acworth residents Quovadis Arrington, 23, with hindering the apprehension of wanted person and Tavarus Arrington, 23, with hindering the apprehension of a wanted person as well as making false statements to a law enforcement officer.

Sheriff's deputies around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 22 received a call of a fatal accident along Highway 92 just west of Wade Green Road in southwest Cherokee County. A late model white Dodge Charger left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and hit a small tree.

The passenger inside the car, Justin Humphries, 19, of Acworth, told authorities he was carjacked, hit in the head with a pistol and then "placed in the back of the car and restrained," according to a press release from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

Humphries was treated at a local hospital and later released. 

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Andre Rodriguez of Acworth, was shown to have received a gunshot wound to his upper torso. An autopsy conducted Friday at the GBI Crime Lab noted Rodriguez died from the wound.
