ID of Fatal Fire Victim Still Unknown

The remains of a body were found in the rubble of a Thursday afternoon fire off Highway 20.

Authorities still haven't positively identified the person .

"The GBI Crime Lab will be conducting DNA analysis of the remains," said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the . "However, results could take quite some time."

 and the  responded to a structure fire at 445 Knox Bridge Trail at approximately 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19 to find the log home engulfed in flames, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee Fire and EMS.

At the time, there were no reported injuries, but the neighbor who reported the incident indicated that someone could have been inside the house, Cavender said.

Cherokee County fire investigator Shane Daniel said the remains of a body were found in the rubble around 6 p.m. Thursday. The number of residents is unknown.
