One woman escaped the fire unharmed, but the 1905-era house was lost.

A Monday morning fire destroyed a century-old home in Ball Ground, according to authorities.

Investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

The press release says that the home was originally built in the early part of the last century by Calvin Farmer, a prominent local who was responsible for helping to bring power to Ball Ground. The home on Old Dawsonville Highway actually predated the construction of the road.

The city park next to the home is named in Farmer's honor.
