Held for 8 Months, Child Returned

A man who held his daughter out of state for eight months will not face any charges, the interim chief of the said today.

In an email to local reporters, Todd Vande Zande said the mother told authorities last week that the father took the girl for a visit in July. She was expected back in August.

Vande Zande did not say why the mother waited until March to report the incident to law enforcement.

"Over the weekend, Det. Rodney Campbell worked with the FBI and was successful in getting the father to agree to drive the child back to our jurisdiction this weekend," he said.

The girl has been reunited with her mother.

"No charges are pending," Vande Zande said.

"Over the weekend, Det. Rodney Campbell was successful in gaining the return of a juvenile child who had been held out of state for approximately eight months. The investigation began last week when the mother filed a report with the Canton Police Department indicating the father of the child took visitation custody in July of last year. The child was to be brought back home in August. Det. Campbell worked with the FBI and was successful in getting the father to agree to drive the child back to our jurisdiction this weekend. The child has be re-united with her mother. No charges are pending."
