GBI: Canton Police Spokeswoman Subject of Investigation

The agency is looking into a "specific expense from the Explorers account," an official with the GBI said.

Sgt. Stacy Bailey, the spokeswoman for the  and one of the , is the subject of a GBI criminal investigation, officials with both agencies said today.

Chief Bob Merchant on July 18 asked the GBI to "look into an expense from the ... Explorers fund," said Kim Williams, a special agent in the GBI's Cleveland, GA, office, which covers Cherokee County.

The Explorers program exposes teenagers to careers in law enforcement. Merchant said "information that was supplied to me from an individual that was involved in this particular matter" prompted him to request the GBI investigation.

"The information was turned over to them," he said.

Williams said her office has contacted the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office to "make them aware of the investigation" and will meet with officials in the DA's Office "when we conclude our investigation."

While she would not discuss the timeline of the case, she said the investigation is "ongoing."

The GBI investigation isn't the only concern for Bailey, who has been suspended with pay since July 18.

A Sandy Springs Police captain filed a report with the , alleging that Bailey made harassing phone calls to him after he ended their year-long affair in June, according to the Cherokee Tribune.

Messages left for Bailey have not been returned. In February, two months after the brutal murder of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, she helped  to teach children how to escape dangerous situations.

Always disappointing when a sworn officer goes down the tubes.

I know Stacy is a good person. She has done a lot of great things for the community.

Right. OR, they're just getting rid of all the actual good cops in town. First Vande Zande. Now Bailey.

Lets wait and see what happens before we say stupid things! Innocent until proven guilty is the way things are suppose to work.

Stacy is a good person and has done a lot for the community. Let's just say that there are always two sides to every story... The truth shall prevail without a doubt.

my great aunt always said theres 2 sides to every 2x4

I agree with most of the other comments regarding 2 sides to every story. Lets just say that the canton police chief AND the sandy springs police captain are doing a good job of twisting information and when all is said and done, there needs to be accountability for defacing her reputation.. Hang in there Stacy!! The truth will prevail!! The editor should do a little more investigation of facts before writing a story.

I have had the privelidge of working with Sergeant Bailey as my wife and I were organizing the vigil for ms. Rivera. She really made things happen and rescued us from the start, she is a good cop and a great human being. It is hard to think that this is possible. Keep your head up sarge

The community has no idea what has been going on with in that department, Even before Mr. Vande Zande and Mr. Lance took over it was headed down a deadly path created by the thirst for money and power by the city leadership. Most of the officers who work for Canton PD are good, honest, and faithful to this city. But a lot of non criminal internal "hick ups" have been over looked or accepted because the department couldn't afford to get rid of any one. This is because the city leadership as well as the people of the city refuse to allow the department to grow into a professional organization. The City leadership is only concerned about the revenue that the department creates by issuing citations and not their ability to locate criminals and convict them of murder and the community has little to no respect for the officers because they are not Atlanta PD or GSP. This is not Mayberry and has not been for years. Mr. Merchant is a professional and will only accept professionalism from his officers. I believe that he is the first step in a change for the better for our community.

I would like to remind all good American's Citizens that as I sit at my computer American Soldiers are fighting for our freedom and the American principals of our Constitution's Amendments. In the USA " All Americans are presumed innocent until proven guilty". As a good Christian, I love the words in my Bible and believe in the Lord. I would ask you all to read the 35th Psalm for the Lord knows the truth. I have had the experience of seeing persons put there hand to the Bible and swear to tell the truth but they lied, the Lord knew this and the Lord does not forget. Sgt. Stacy Bailey is a mother of a disabled child whos's dad hasn't seen her in seven years. She has raised Ansley by herself, run a cleaning business and a well know Canton Officer, winning many awards, and known by all. She has been single for a decade she DIDN'T break her marital vows as did Scott Jamerson. Scott Jamerson, who was given the option to resign or quit (retire) as Captain of the PD in Sandy Springs. That would arouse the readers to wonder why???? I know why a married man, with three kids, one very disabled son would hurt & an embarrass them an threaten Sgt. Bailey that he ruin her life? Yes, Stacy Bailey is human and the Lord knows that and I believe the Lord is a loving and forgiving God. pnh

Yes, "you are innocent until proven guilty" please pray for truth, jusitce and the great American way in this case. I believe that the Lord knows the motivation of all involved, good, bad or indifferent. Please remember to pray for all affected by the actions of Scott Jamerson. And yes, I know Stacy is not perfect, and she knows I have always been frank with her about everything from cooking, college, the law, human services and her taking on way to much to help the police department (its' social service type programs) and other non-profits. Trust me I am a mom to a NYC Attorney and a business manager/chef and I am not "shy" when comes to critisim when needed. Stacy Bailey has gotten many lectures from me, especially when it came to Scott Jamerson. Could he have done this same thing to other unsuspecting females as he did to Stacy? He knew Stacy had a disable child and he prayed on her by telling Stacy about his son. She knew the family's pain so she looked up the child's disability and all articles about the Jamerson's and the family plight with this child's health issues. Slowly the snake crawled, closer and closer and then the fags sunk in...the venom ran into her veins..and then the snake slithered away. Need I say more...Yes, Stacy should have known you cannot take a venomous snake as a pet!!! She sure does now!!!
REALLY??? August 19, 2012 at 04:46 AM
Ms Haines, Not all are as innocent as you think. I too know Stacy personally and this is NOT her first rodeo.
